The company replaced a single safety valve on GrDF’s ND 300 gas line, which was found to be in close proximity of two additional valves on pipeline ND 150.
TDW replaced all the three valves, allowing GrDF Toulouse to save time and money in future maintenance on the additional valves.
Proper functioning of the valves is integral to GrDF Toulouse ensuring public safety, as they enable it to quickly halt gas flow in case of emergency.
The first phase of work was to excavate the line, following which TDW also replaced a section of the primary pipeline, ND 300, as it was completely corroded.
To isolate the affected section of line, while maintenance work was undertaken, TDW carried out a series of hot tap and plugging operations using its T-203 and T-101 tapping machines and SHORTSTOPP 275 and 500 plugging machines.
TDW replaced the damaged pipe and all three safety valves.
TDW Hot Tap & Plugging Services project manager Patrick Piroth said, "We are very pleased that the solution we developed for GrDF Toulouse saved them the time and expense of replacing the two additional valves at a later time."
GrDF Toulouse Steel Pipelines project manager said, "This section of our network is now fully secured, and in full compliance with the French legislation that requires that we must be able to shut down our network in less than 15 minutes. Safety is, and remains, our priority."
