Tata Power managing director Anil Sardana said that the growth represents the company’s commitment towards to generating 20-25% of its total generation capacity from clean energy sources.

With a 398MW wind generation portfolio spanning five states Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, the company is currently developing wind power projects of over 160MW in India.

The company has attributed the fiscal year’s growth to the Agaswadi wind farms, which had an increased generation of 85MUs and Poolavadi with 140MUs.

Tata Power Renewable Energy, a 100% subsidiary of Tata Power, has acquired AES Saurashtra Windfarms, which owns and operates a 39.2MW wind farm near Dwarka in Jamnagar district of Gujarat.

The project, which became fully operational in January 2012, is supplying its output to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam at a tariff of INR3.56/kWh for the duration of the project.

The project has received clean development mechanism (CDM) approval from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, becoming eligible for certified emission reductions. It is also registered under the Generation Based Incentive scheme of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

Tata Power global wind assets include Cennergi, a joint venture between the company and Exxaro in South Africa, which has recently reached financial closure of 95MW Tsitsikamma and 135MW Amakhala Emoyeni wind farm projects in Eastern Cape.

Additionally, the company has installed new micro turbines of 2kW from Windtronics, 5kW and 12kW from WePower and 5kW from Unitron, to understand their performance on Indian soil as well as to determine the cost-effective ways of wind energy to erect on rooftops or in remote areas where there is sufficient wind energy.
