Norwich will use funds from its US Department of Energy grant to introduce AMI system throughout its service area.
AMI system will enable the utility to introduce a range of energy efficiency initiatives to help customers better manage their energy costs.
Norwich will use a combination of Tantalus’s 220MHz radio and its existing municipal fiber network to create a highly redundant, two-way communications network.
The wireless TUNet (Tantalus Utility Network) canopy establishes wide area coverage throughout NPU’s urban and rural service areas.
NPU energy services division manager Jeff Brining said that Tantalus’s system works seamlessly with NPU’s current fiber communications network and has highly effective RF capabilities which allow it to reach all of its customers.
NPU operations manager Christopher LaRose said that the self-generating system easily communicates real-time information from the meters that will enable NPU to greatly enhance customer service in the future.
