The Slovenian government has said that talks with Slovenian-Austrian joint venture Sava about building five hydroelectric power plants on the river Sava have failed. Slovenia said the main reason for the failure was the unacceptable price of electricity offered by Sava. Slovenia had called for 25% reduction in prices of electricity from the plant.

Austria’s biggest power generator and national grid operator Verbund holds a 49% stake in the joint venture. Its partner is Slovenian state-owned Savske Elektrarne.
