Georgia Power has completed the redesign of the existing 500kV switchyard for Vogtle units 1&2.

The work, carried out as part of the Vogtle expansion project, will help to ensure seamless integration of the two new AP1000 units into the system.

The 500kV redesign included the addition of four new breakers, associated disconnect switches and a new relay protection scheme.

Other major transmission milestones achieved at the Vogtle site recently include the completion of foundations, control conduits and cableway for the Unit 4 Switchyard, the rerouting of the West McIntosh 500kV line, the reconfiguration of the existing 230kV switchyard and commissioning of the new Vogtle 230kV switching station.

Work is currently underway on a 55 mile long 500 kV transmission line which is 55 miles long and runs from Thomson, Georgia. to Plant Vogtle.
