Vattenfall has signed a contract with Siemens for the construction of Lillgrund in Öresund near Malmö, which at 110 MW will be the largest offshore wind farm in Sweden.

The Lillgrund wind farm is scheduled to start commercial operation in late 2007.

“With the Lillgrund order, we underline our leading position in the offshore wind-business, which is gaining importance for the near future,” said Andreas Nauen, head of the wind power division of Siemens PG. Under the terms of the contract, which includes turbine delivery, electrical infrastructure, installation, and a five-year service and maintenance agreement, Siemens will supply and install 48, 2.3 MW Mk II turbines

Siemens Power Transmission and Distribution will also provide equipment for the project’s 33 kV and 138 kV-offshore transformer station.
