Independent Indian power producer Orange Renewable has selected Suzlon to supply turbines for a wind energy project in the state of Rajasthan.

Suzlon will deploy 24 S88 – 2.1MW turbines for the 50.4MW project, located in the district of Jaisalmer.

Scope of the contract includes installation, operation and maintenance of the turbines.

Orange Renewable Power co-founder Ranjit Gupta remarked that the company considered wind to be a highly viable option with techno-economic maturity.

"We plan to develop and operate a portfolio of renewable energy assets, including wind, biomass, small hydro and solar, where each project would be crafted to deliver optimum value to all stakeholders," Gupta said.

Suzlon Energy India and emerging markets CEO Rohit Modi added, "With growing participation and investment from domestic and international IPPs, the segment is already playing a pivotal role in accelerating the development of Indian wind energy market."

Orange Renewable is hopeful of commissioning the project in FY2013.
