Superior Essex said it will invest $58m in new infrastructure and manufacturing equipment.
The company intends to begin the construction in Tarboro this year, with commercial production planned to start in next year.
The new facility and product offering will become part of a new business unit for the company, and is named as Superior Essex Energy.
Superior Essex is part of LS Cable, a manufacturer of power cable products and a supplier for many US-based energy transmission projects.
Superior Essex manufactures wire and cable products with primary applications in the communications, magnet wire and related distribution markets.
