Philippines-based renewable energy developer Sunwest Water and Electric (SUWECO) is set to commercialize its 600KW hydropower plant in Sorsogon City in August 2013.

The 600KW Cawayan upper mini-hydropower project, located in Barangay Guinlajon, is anticipated to generate around 2.786GWh per year.

Commenting on the development, SUWECO president Jose Silvestre M. Natividad said the hydropower plant is in line with the company’s target and is valued at around PHP80m ($1.86m).

SUWECO noted that the plant will contribute to energy demand of 12.406MW in the region.

Currently, SUWECO operates two mini hydro power plants with a total capacity of 3.6MW in the province of Catanduanes.
