The solar plant can generate over 30% of the annual energy requirements at China Lake, is expected to decrease about $13m in costs in the next two decades.

The plant employs SunPower’s high-efficiency solar panels and is funded via a 20-year term solar power purchase agreement (PPA) using a long-term energy procurement authority.

SunPower regions president Howard Wenger commented, "This 20-year PPA will significantly lower long-term electricity costs at China Lake, and can be used as a template for additional large-scale federal solar projects.

The company installed its SunPower Oasis power plant product at the China Lake site and is fully integrated, modular solar power block, engineered to deploy utility-scale solar projects with optimal cost and land use.
