Power generated from the facility is scheduled to be sold to Pacific Gas and Electrics under a long-term power purchase agreement.
Planned to be commissioned by the end of 2016, the solar project is expected to generate about 350 jobs during construction phase.
SunPower global power plants executive vice-president Jorg Heinemann said: "With more than 5.8 gigawatts of operating solar systems worldwide, SunPower designs and builds solar power plants to leverage the company’s proven experience and our technology’s outstanding power-producing performance."
The company expects the facility to generate an estimated $3.8m in tax revenue, and $73m in local economic impact.
The Solar Energy Industries Association estimates the project to generate electricity required to power more than 22,000 homes.
Separately, SunPower is developing a power plant making use of modular Oasis solar power blocks at the Henrietta site, which feature robotic solar panel cleaning capability to help improve system performance by up to 15%.
The Oasis technology is designed to facilitate rapid and cost-effective deployment of utility-scale solar projects.
The US Environmental Protection Agency estimates the plant to reduce CO2 emissions of almost 128,000t annually, over the next 25 years.
