Located in Iron County in southern Utah, the three solar projects include the 63MW DC Granite Mountain Solar West plant, the 100MW DC Granite Mountain Solar East plant and the 99MW DC Iron Springs Solar plant.
Capable of generating enough electricity to power over 36,000 Utah homes, the projects are scheduled to enter service in 2016.
Power generated from the power plant will be sold to PacifiCorp through three 20-year power purchase agreements according to its obligation under the federal Public Utilities Regulatory Policies Act.
The purchase agreements and the electricity price will be at the utility’s avoided cost of electricity and the contract is subject to Utah Public Service Commission approval to ensure a fair price for PacifiCorp customers.
The company plans to commence construction of the power plants in the fall of 2015.
SunEdison North America Utility and Global Wind executive vice president Paul Gaynor said: "These solar power plants will create jobs and provide valuable tax revenue to the people of Utah – they are a testament to the contribution solar can make to our energy future."
The three projects are on the Call Right Projects List for TerraForm Power. Upon completion, the facilities will be offered by SunEdison to TerraForm Power for investment.
SunEdison Services will be responsible for operation and maintenance of the solar power plants.
Currently, SunEdison has more than 720MW DC of solar energy in development and 306MW AC of wind power operated in-state. Firm’s other solar projects in Utah include the 22.6MW DC Seven Sisters, the 420MW DC Four Brothers, and 22MW DC of smaller projects.
