The six companies, which will form a consortium named Solar-power Group Share (SGS), participate in the construction of the plant along with Sumitomo include Jupiter Telecommunications, Sumitomo Electric Industries, DAIHEN Corporation, Hitachi Zosen Corporation, Rengo and NTT Facilities.
Assets of the plant will be owned by Sumitomo Mitsui Finance & Leasing, while Summit Energy Corporation will be responsible for the management. Land for the public-private project will be provided by the city of Osaka.
The proposed plant will spread over an area of about 15 hectares on the waste landfill site located in the Yume-shima first district, Konohana-ku, Osaka City.
The Hokko Landfill Site contains ash from household trash combustion. Sumitomo proposed the solar project at the site when the city of Osaka invited proposals to develop the landfill area.
The project is expected to be operational by October 2013 and will generate 10MW of energy, enough to power 3200 households.
