With the latest approval, the project now has all the major Québec and federal government authorizations required to begin the construction.

Stornoway Diamond president and CEO Matt Manson said, "With this latest milestone achieved, we look forward to the opening the Renard Mine Road later this year, which will make Renard the first fully-permitted diamond mining project in Canada with a permanent road."

The company had filed the project’s Environmental and Social Impact Assessment with the regulators in December 2011.

In October 2012, Stornoway obtained its mining lease from the Québec Ministère des Ressources naturelles, with its Québec Certificate of Authorization from the Québec Ministère du Développement Durable, de l’Environnement,de la Faune et des Parcs approved in December 2012.

The Renard Diamond Project is located about 250km north of the Cree community of Mistissini and 350km north of Chibougamau in the James Bay region of north-central Québec.
