The Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) has awarded India’s Sterling and Wilson two contracts for the Sweihan solar power project.
Sterling and Wilson will build the 1177 MWp under an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract, and will also be responsible for operation and maintenance (O&M) of the plant when it starts operating in 2019.
Construction is already underway at the 7800-hectare site and will be completed in 23 months. The plant is being developed by a consortium of Marubeni and Jinko, which bid a record-low price of ¢2.42/kWh in an auction for the project in 2016.
“We are fully geared and very excited to be a part of this important milestone in the global solar market”, said Bikesh Ogra, president of Renewable Energy, at Sterling and Wilson.
