The new recycling process provides a sealed and automated method for processing flat screens, including TVs, computer monitors, laptops with LCD, LED or plasma technology, to reduce the risks of exposure to mercury for those dismantling the discarded screens.

In the process, clean fractions of iron, metals, plastics, circuit boards and glass with liquid crystal are separated, providing a new way to recycle large quantities of electronic waste, complying with the legislation and with environmental and health benefits.

Griag Glasrecycling, a part of Stena Metall, managing director Staffan Johansson said that the company has made great investments in solving the recycling of the rapidly growing mountain of discarded flat screens and has developed an automated process.

“The degree of recycling is significantly higher than the requirements that will be set in the future with a tougher WEEE Directive – which states how much of Europe’s electronic waste must be recycled,” Johansson said.
