The oil refinery is owned by Ecopetrol who selected Foster Wheeler as the sole contractor in 2008, for the front-end engineering design and project management for the refinery expansion.

Under the expansion project, the capacity of the refinery is expected to be increased from 12.5 million tons (MT) per annum to 15MT.

A large portion of the expansion project involves assembly of radiant stanchions comprising over 3000 components cast in ASTM A351 HK40 weighing 72MT.

Foster Wheeler accepted Steloy’s proposal to supply the static and centrifugal castings for the direct fired heaters and convection applications that make up the radiant sections.

Foster Wheeler QA manager Bruce Brewer said Steloy demonstrated its ability to meet Foster Wheeler’s stringent technical and quality requirements.

"Together, we have developed a good working and communication relations with Steloy’s staff which has been critically important to our project execution successes," Brewer added.
