According to the company, the offer submitted to the oil companies includes 34 production licenses in areas already opened for petroleum activities, out of which 21 are awarded in the North Sea, 11 in the Norwegian Sea and two in the Barents Sea.
StatoilHydro has been awarded interests in four licenses in the North Sea and three licenses in the Norwegian Sea.
Tove Sjoblom, StatoilHydro’s senior vice president for explorations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS), said: “We are pleased with the award, which gives us new exploration acreage with the existing infrastructure we are operating on the NCS.
“We have completed an exploration program in 2008. The new exploration opportunities are in areas which may add to fields in production and thereby help extend their lifetime.”
Earlier in the first week of December 2008, StatoilHydro completed the full acquisition of the Peregrino heavy-oil field offshore Brazil, after closing the deal to acquire the additional 50% stake from Anadarko. The Peregrino field is located 85 kilometres off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.
