The well, located about 400m from the PL501 border, will be drilled to a total depth of about 2,000m below mean sea level, by using the semi-submersible drilling rig, Ocean Vanguard.
Main objective of the well 16/2-15 is to determine the depth of the reservoir as well as reservoir thickness, quality and facies in the southern part of the Johan Sverdrup discovery within PL265.
The drilling program is expected to take about 50 days to complete.
Statoil Petroleum owns 40% interest in the PL265 license and is the operator, whereas other partners including Petoro holds 30%, det norske oljeselskap holds 20% and Lundin Norway holds 10% remaining interest respectively.
