The Peregrino field is situated at about 100m water depth in Campos basin in licenses BM-C-7 and BM-C-47 85km offshore Brazil.
Statoil and Sinochem drilled the 3-STAT-8-RJS appraisal well to confirm the previous volume estimate for the discovery and provide a valid basis to plan for the Peregrino Phase II development.
Statoil Brazil country president Kjetil Hove said the well confirms the company’s positive view on the area and will provide valuable base to develop the phase two.
"We will now continue to work toward a final investment decision to develop this new oil discovery," Hove said.
The 3-STAT-8-RJS well intersected around 85m of high-quality oil-filled sandstone reservoir in the Carapebus formation with a net pay over 70%.
Statoil owns 60% interest in the Peregrino field and is the operator whereas Sinochem holds the remaining 40% interest in the field.
