FAME INFORMATION SERVICES, a provider of data management and decision-support solutions for trading and risk management, has announced that Norwegian energy production utility, Statkraft, has chosen Fame’s database technology as its core market database.

Statkraft’s decision follows a lengthy and systematic evaluation of Fame’s technology to serve as their main database for research and market modelling.

Statkraft is one of Norway’s largest producers of hydroelectric power.

Annual production capacity exceeds 42 TWh, about a third of the country’s hydroelectric power production.

‘We choose the Fame database for its powerful time-series handling capabilities,’ said Kjell Berger, chief economist, Statkraft. ‘During our trial of the technology we were favourably impressed with its fast analytic performance, particularly in managing huge amounts of hourly data.’

Fame’s professional services team interfaced the Fame database to several external data providers and internal third-party systems to ensure Statkraft’s access to its internal energy data.

‘Fame’s database technology consolidates Statkraft’s data into one centralised platform, eliminating duplication of data,’ said Dale Richards, Fame’s chief executive officer.
