SPX has won an order to supply safety injection pumps for units 5&6 at the Fuqing nuclear plant, which will deploy the latest Chinese reactor design, Hualong One.

Under the contract with China Nuclear Power Engineering Company (CNPE), SPX will supply its ClydeUnion Pumps medium head safety injection (MHSI) pump packages for Fuqing 5&6. The company claims that it will be the only non-domestic pump supplier for the project.

SPX says its equipment packages use multi-stage, centrifugal, radially-split Nuclear Class II pumps, which have been designed according to Chinese (HAF 604) and French (RCC-M) nuclear standards. The pump design includes adapted suction with an inducer to allow low net positive suction head on large flow ranges.

The pumps will be manufactured at SPX’s facility in Annecy, France. Both that facility and its plant in Glasgow, UK, have been designated Grade A suppliers by CNPEC.

"It is exciting to be part of this project for one of the first deployments of the Hualong One Generation III reactor. We have a good working relationship with CNPE and this latest contract is another reflection on the expert engineering capability SPX consistently delivers for nuclear class pumps," said Colin Elcoate, VP Business Development – Power at SPX.

The 1000 MW (net) Hualong One pressurised water reactor merges the ACP1000 (CNNC) and ACPR1000 (CGN) reactor designs to form a standardised reactor that is set to be widely deployed throughout China. China is also targeting export markets, including the UK, where it hopes to deploy the Hualong One at the Bradwell nuclear site.
