Rusatom International Network (RIN), part of Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, on 20 April signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korean Atomic Industrial Forum (KAIF) aimed at "enhancing dialogue between the nuclear industries of the two countries". RIN and KAIF agreed to regularly exchange information, cooperate in achieving public acceptance of nuclear power and technologies, and facilitate development of the succession pool for the nuclear industry. They "will also combine efforts to support Russian and Korean enterprises in the establishment of partnerships in various spheres".

RIN president Alexander Merten said: "Russia historically has close ties with the Korean nuclear industry. The first contract for the supply of enriched uranium to Korea was concluded by Tenex as early as in 1988, and the first MOU with KAIF was signed in 1991." Rosatom is currently closely cooperating with South Korean companies on nuclear fuel cycle projects, he added, noting that there were also "plenty of other opportunities for the development of cooperation in various areas". Tenex continues to supply enriched uranium to Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power, which operates all of South Korea’s nuclear power reactors.

RIN was set up in 2014 to develop and manage Rosatom’s regional offices around the world. Its main objectives are to support the activities of Rosatom’s divisions in foreign markets, seeking new business opportunities and promoting Rosatom’s products and services abroad. Rosatom has so far opened regional offices in Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Johannesburg, Kiev, Paris, Prague, Singapore.
KAIF was established in 1972 to promote cooperation between related organizations; build networks between Korea and overseas countries; and strengthen nuclear educational programes.
