Sony has partnered with Global Electric Electronic Processing and its e-collex network of collection points for the purpose of expanding its recycling program.
The 57 non-retail collection sites accept all Sony products, including larger items like televisions and stereos, while the consumers can drop off hand-held products, portable rechargeable batteries and cellular phones for recycling at all 62 Sony Style retail stores across Canada.
In addition, Sony Style’s Green Glove Delivery Service have the consumers’ old televisions removed and recycled while delivering a new set to their home.
Sony Canada, which is striving to achieve a zero environmental footprint by 2050, launched its national recycling program in April 2008 to help the consumers dispose off their e-waste for free and since then is claimed have to diverted more than 100,000kg of old electronics from landfill.
Doug Wilson, president and chief operating officer of Sony Canada, said: “Sony Canada’s goal is to divert all Sony products from landfill. We’ve delivered on our goal to double the number of collection sites within the last two years, and we’ll keep expanding. We’re committed to making it as easy to recycle Sony products as it is to purchase them.”
