Sonora80M has inked an agreement with Ford Motor Company of Mexico to supply 15% of energy generated at its solar park that is to be constructed in Hermosillo, Sonora.

The proposed 20MW solar park will deploy solar trackers to optimize production by approximately 30%.

According to the company, the phase I of the solar park is scheduled to become operational in 2014 and will reduce 500,000 tons of CO2 emissions.

Commenting on the agreement, Sonora80M Group director Cesar Martin said that the agreement with Ford showcases the company’s commitment towards the development of solar energy in Mexico.

Ford of Mexico Manufacturing director Jose Islas said, "One of the main concerns in the business is to safeguard the environment.

"That’s why, in addition to producing hybrid and electric vehicles in our Hermosillo plant, from the first quarter of 2014, we will be using solar energy for our operations.

"Through the use of this energy source, seek to reduce our carbon footprint, lower the cost associated with the use of electrical input, resulting in higher levels of productivity and competitiveness for the company."
