Vietnam’s Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has authorised work to start on the 190MW Song Tranh 2 hydro power plant in the central province of Quang Nam.

The project, whose construction should cost around US$261M, is to be located in Tra Doc and Tra Tan villages, in Tra Mi district. It is one of eight projects of the hydroelectric power system on Thy Bon and Vu Gia rivers.

Song Tranh 2 will produce electricity from two turbines and is to generate 679GWh/yr. The project is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2009.

Attendees at the commencing ceremony for the project included Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly and member of the Party’s Central Committee Nguyen Phuc Thanh, and representatives from various ministries and agencies of the Government and Quang Nam province.
