Sondel, a subsidiary of the Italian Falck group, wants to construct a 700 MW cogeneration plant at Basilicata. The company has put forward a proposal to the Ferrandini local authority. It estimates the project will cost $396 million.

The project, involving two gas turbine based power generating units, would generate an annual output of 5300 GWh of electricity for the national grid and 156 000 t of process steam for regional industries. Con- struction would take around 30 months.

Sondel currently operates both hydropower plants and thermal power plants.
