The solar power plant will be built on 60 acres of land near Kingman to provide affordable renewable power to customers of UES, through a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
Under the PPA, Solon has agreed to finance, design, construct and maintain the power plant, which uses Solon’s technology, including its single-axis tracking system.
UES will only purchase the electricity generated by the system.
Solon North America CEO and president Dan Alcombright said the financing model enables UES to buy only the power produced by the system, that is clean solar power delivered directly to UES customers.
"It also helps the utility meet peak load requirements while lowering the responsibility and costs associated with operations and maintenance," Alcombright said.
Solon will begin construction on the project in November 2011, with the systems slated to be commissioned and in-service in by next year.
To help ensure the plant’s performance and efficiency, Solon is also providing its own SCADA system, which enables remote control and monitoring.
Solon said the energy will complement the output of a 1.22MW UES-owned array that Solon will also develop near Kingman’s La Senita School Elementary.
