“We are interested in the development of Petkim, and preparatory work is currently under way to build a new oil refinery on its territory. All the necessary permissions for this have been received. We are conducting a feasibility study now to start construction in 2010,” said Rovnag Abdullayev, president of Socar.
“One of the reasons for building a refinery right on Petkim’s territory is that this construction may cost less, as all the necessary infrastructure, including a port, is already in place. We only need to build new plants. This will cost us 30%-40% less than if we build the facility somewhere else,” Abdullayev said.
The Socar management is satisfied with Petkim’s performance, Abdullayev said. “Despite the global crisis, Petkim achieved good profits in the first nine months of this year,” Abdullayev said.
