With electricity rates averaging $0.12, and four times the number of cooling degree days (CDD) than are experienced in Vancouver, Chile and in particular its capital Santiago is an ideal market for Smartcool’s technology. Currently Chile is ranked second in South America for per capita carbon dioxide emissions (almost 80% of the country’s electricity is supplied by carbon based fuels), making energy efficiency and the related reduction in greenhouse gas emissions a key concern for the country.
The initial response to our test marketing was extremely well received, stated Pedro de Solminihac, general manager of GEESA. Energy efficiency technologies are being looked upon very favorably in this market, but it is the return on investment the ESM™ provides that makes it stand out from the crowd. Becoming the exclusive distributor of the ESM™ became a priority for us and we are extremely pleased to now be working with the Smartcool team.
With the testing, there is a catalogue of evidence that ESM and ECO3 technologies provide significant reduction in electricity usage in air conditioning and refrigeration systems. This translates into considerable cost savings and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
We have already completed the test phase of the ESM™ at two locations in Santiago for a major grocery chain, with very favorable results added Norman Ramsey, director of sales at GEESA. We are now entering into discussions with respect to a more comprehensive roll-out for this customer. This is a major step for us and will be an excellent reference point for the ESM™ in this region.
Working with the GEESA Group has been a pleasure, commented Chris Lefaivre, vice president sales for Smartcool Systems. The South American region has been of interest to us for some time as the warmer temperatures and higher electricity rates create a great environment for our energy efficiency technologies. This region has significant carbon emission issues and being part of the solution to this problem is extremely exciting for us. We are convinced that the GEESA team has a very large opportunity in front of them and that they are perfectly equipped to take advantage of it.
