Slave River project shelved as First Nation withdraws support

Joint venture partners TransCanada Corp and ATCO Ltd have reportedly shelved plans for a hydroelectric project with a generating capacity of up to 1300MW on the Slave River in Alberta, Canada, after an aboriginal group refused to support the project.

According to reports in the Calgary Herald, the Smith’s Landing First Nation refused a new feasibility study on the project as it was concerned about flooding on its lands.
