The companies signed the deal during the opening ceremony of China-Canada Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference in Guangdong province.

The joint venture will use SkyPower’s global experience and its development platform in designing clean energy solutions in India at market-competitive rates.

BYD’s environmentally-friendly battery storage technology, in combination with SkyPower’s experience in the development of utility-scale solar projects, will result in a solar implementation strategy.

SkyPower commercial strategy and development and chief commercial officer Charles Cohen said: "SkyPower, an industry leader in the development of large-scale solar energy projects, is excited to work with BYD, a global leader in battery technology, to bring together a highly-competitive bid for low-carbon, clean technology solutions."

SkyPower has built, assembled and acquired a pipeline of more than 25GW globally, of which 9GW were recently unveiledin bilateral agreements, and other contract awards, to be constructed in the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia in the next five years.

Guangdong-headquartered BYD accounts for over 25% of China’s foreign trade.

Commenting on the SkyPower deal, BYD senior corporate vice president Stella Li said: "BYD is the global leader in reliable, efficient battery storage and solar technology, and we are committed to providing affordable, sustainable energy solutions that not only help countries recover economically but also help reduce air pollution caused by traditional, dirty fossil fuels."
