It will take 6 months from the date of commercial agreement between India and Pakistan for the export of electricity from Pakistan to India, as stated in a joint statement issued in November 1998.

The two governments have agreed on the export of 2000 MWe from Pakistan to India. Pakistan has indicated availability of surplus power of up to 2000 MWe which could be exported to India until 2010, and possibly beyond this date.

In a separate development, China’s Consul General An Qinguang has said that talks are underway for the construction of a large number of small and medium sized hydroelectric projects in Pakistan to provide cheap energy.
