Provisional environmental approval has been granted for six proposed hydroelectric projects in Brazil that are due to go to tender in mid-December.

A total of 13 hydroelectric projects are expected to be offered in the tender with a total capacity of 2,000 MW and at a collective cost estimated at $3.76B. The projects need to obtain a provisional environmental approval by 6 December to participate in the auction and the government has already withdrawn several over concerns that they would not achieve permitting in time.
