The Bihar State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) gave approval for establishment of biomass based power plants along solar plants to generate electricity in Bihar, India. These biomass plants would be established by the private investors from the state and outside. According to Bihar Industry Association President K P Jhunjhunwala, the electricity produced in these plants would be termed as ''green energy''. Beltron, a state government undertaking, is acting as a consultant for the project.

Jhunjhunwala also said that the private investors have shown keen interest in the projects and would be coming here along with the technological know-how for the project.

He said that the electricity generated in these plants would cater to the needs of people in the state reeling under power crisis.

The investors interested in the biomass power project include Bermaco Green Energy System of Germany and Gamon Infrastructure Limited. Both the companies were expected to set up 25 biomass power plants with 12 MW installed capacity in joint venture of 50:50 partnership.

In addition to this, SIPB gave its approval to Gurgaon based Emergent Ventures India Private Limited to set up biomass power plant with 12 MW capacity at Konch in Gaya district.

The SIPB in principle gave its signals to the Astonfield Renewable Energy Resources Private Limited, Kolkata for setting up 10 biomass power plants with each having 10 MW installed capacity in 10 different districts of Bihar.

The other private investors include M/S Poorvanchal Urea Limited, M/S Saran Renewable Energy Private Limited and M/S SREI Infrastructure Finance Limited.
