China Knowledge reports that Sinopec International Petroleum Co (SIPC) an affiliate of Sinopec, Asia’s largest oil refinery operator, has secured a final contract worth USD 140 million from Kenya Energy Generating Co to develop a 280 MW geothermal power project in Olkaria, Kenya. SIPC said it will create a piping system with a total length of more than 40 km for the project.

The contract, to last of 20 months, is financed by the World Bank and Kreditanstalt Fur Wiederaufbau (KFW) of Germany. The entire Olkaria project will cost USD 580 million and is expected to be completed by mid-2014. Steam from the geothermal wells will be delivered to two generating plants each with a capacity of 140 MW.
