The renewable energy policy of Taiwan aims at an installed capacity of 3 GW of offshore wind power by 2025 and making the country non-nuclear by 2025.
Sif and Century Wind Power announced plans to contribute to this target. Through the joint venture, both companies plan to produce monopiles and transition pieces for the Taiwanese wind energy market.
While sections for the offshore wind monopile foundations will be manufactured at Sif’s locations in the Netherlands, they will be assembled and coated by Century Wind Power in Taiwan until the demand for monopile foundations increases in the Taiwanese market.
Century Wind Power is a subsidiary of Century Iron and Steel Industrial (CT), a manufacturer of steel structures in the domestic market, with headquarters in Guanyin district of Taoyuan City.
Sif is a manufacturer of large steel tubulars, which are used as foundation components for the offshore wind and offshore oil and gas markets. It produces customized tubular components for offshore foundations.
The company primarily manufactures monopiles, transition pieces and piles, which are used to anchor jacket foundations in the seabed for offshore wind turbines, legs, pile sleeves and piles of larger jackets for oil and gas, and tubular structures for uses such as jetties.
