The power project will be completed in 2012 and is expected to generate enough power to supply over 80,000 homes. Siemens’ scope of supply for the Griffin project includes delivery, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines.

Of the 68 turbines, 61 will have a 101mt rotor and seven will have a 93mt rotor. Siemens will also provide services for turbine operation and maintenance for an initial period of five years.

Last fall, Siemens signed a contract with SSER to supply wind turbines for SSER’s 350MW Clyde project in Scotland. This project is planned for commissioning in 2012.

Jens-Peter Saul, CEO of Siemens Wind Power Business Unit, said: “The Griffin wind power plant will yield significant benefits for Scotland in terms of jobs and local value creation.”
