Siemens Industry has said that its building technologies division has signed an agreement to acquire Site Controls, a provider of enterprise-wide energy management systems for multi-site commercial businesses, to strengthen its position in the growing smart consumption/smart grid market.

Site Controls’ energy management platform, Site-Command, provides customers with centralized visibility and control of multiple locations from a central point by integrating hardware and software and enables them to participate in smart grid demand response programs through SureGrid.

SureGrid is an energy aggregation and demand response system, which offers customers, utilities and grid operators an automated, cloud-based load management technology to reduce peak power demand when the electrical grid is under stress.

The acquisition of Site Controls will enable Siemens to retain Site Controls’ 75-person team in Austin and expand building technologies division’s overall product portfolio of building automation and HVAC control systems for the retail and commercial markets.

Siemens president of building technologies division Andreas Schierenbeck said that the company is keenly interested in developing systems for its customers that help increase energy efficiency, margins, productivity and competitiveness.

“With Site Controls’ energy management platform as part of our product portfolio, we have new tools to offer business owners and facility managers that centrally manage energy across the enterprise,” Schierenbeck said.
