The company added that in combined-cycle power plants, output is increased from 64MW to 66MW and efficiency from 53% to 54%.

The SGT-800 gas turbine was launched under the name GTX100 in 1997, as a 43MW machine. Since then, Siemens has held continual enhancement of turbine performance as a keystone of its product strategy.

Optimizing the first and second stage of the turbine cooling system and increasing airflow from the compressor have yielded increased power and enhanced efficiency.

Siemens said that this enhancement is also offered to existing customers as the modified special components are fully interchangeable. Operators of open- and combined-cycle power plants and combined heat and power plants can benefit from the increased output and enhanced efficiency for reduced life cycle costs.
