The gas-fired plant has an installed capacity of 428MW. With a high efficiency level of more than 59%, it will supply ecofriendly electricity for approximately 400,000 Dutch households.
Siemens claims that the power plant makes use of advanced turbine technology and its combined-cycle design even with air cooled condenser makes the plant 25% more efficient than older gas-fired facilities currently in operation in the Netherlands.
Neil Smith, president and CEO of InterGen, said: “We are very pleased to be bringing MaasStroom online. With this project, InterGen is now meeting 7.5% of the country’s total electricity demand, further reinforcing our commitment to power development in this country.”
Siemens built the plant as a turnkey project and supplied the main components – one SGT5-4000F gas turbine, one SST5-3000 steam turbine, one hydrogen-cooled generator, and the entire electrical and SPPA-T3000 instrumentation and control equipment, allowing the integration of several features for fast start and fast cycling capabilities, the company said.
