The refurbishment project involves a strip down and rebuild of the two gas turbines and the associated steam turbine.
The generators will also undergo refurbishment and an emission-reduction technology will be introduced to a second gas turbine.
According to Siemens, one of the gas turbines has already been fitted with low nitrogen oxide emission-reducing technology.
The power plant was designed and built by Siemens in the 1990s and since then the company is providing maintenance services for the plant.
