Germany-based Siemens Energy will supply Zimpro wet air oxidation (WAO) system for Qatar Petrochemical (QAPCO) – a producer and supplier of ethylene - for wastewater treatment.

The WAO system will be installed at Qatar Petrochemical’s facility in Mesaieed Industrial City, Qatar. It will provide efficient wastewater treatment while eliminating noxious spent caustic sulfide odors at the facility.

The facility is expected to become operational in December 2013.

According to the company, the WAO will destroy odorous sulfide pollutants and generate a biodegradable effluent that can be discharged to conventional biological wastewater treatment.

Meanwhile, QAPCO is set to expand its Ethylene Cracking Unit from a current capacity of 720kta to 900kta.
