Duke Energy will use 73 Siemens units, each with a generating capacity of 2.3MW, to construct the wind farm.

Duke Energy business unit, Duke Energy Renewables, will build, own and operate the 168MW Ironwood windpower project in Ford County.

Westar Energy plans to buy all of the electricity and associated renewable energy credits produced by the site, through a 20-year agreement.

Duke Energy Renewables intends to begin construction of the Ironwood facility later this year.

The facility is expected to start commercial operations by mid-2012, and will generate enough electricity to power nearly 50,000 homes.
