Siemens Energy has secured a contract to supply nine 2.3MW geared wind turbines to the Carroll wind power plant, which will be located in western Iowa near the city of Carroll, US.

Installation of the SWT-2.3-108 wind turbines is due to commence in October 2014, and commissioning is anticipated in early 2015.

The contract with Carroll Area Wind Farm, part of NJR Clean Energy Ventures, also includes a service and maintenance agreement.

Siemens said it will manufacture the major wind turbine components at its production facilities in the US.

Siemens Energy wind power onshore Americas business CEO Mark Albenze said all of the blades will be manufactured at the company’s nearby Fort Madison, Iowa, facility, and all nacelles and hubs for the project will be assembled at its Hutchinson factory in Kansas.

"This order is further evidence that the federal production tax credit continues to boost new economic investment in the U.S. and encourages development of proven renewable energy projects," Albenze said.
