
Under the contract, Siemens will deliver a total of 157 SWT-2.3-108 turbines, each with 2.3MW capacity, for installation at the wind power plants including 140MW Khobab, 140MW Loeriesfontein 2 and 80MW Noupoort.
The contract, which includes a 10-year service and maintenance agreement, has been awarded by a Mainstream Renewable Power-led consortium.
Siemens Division Wind Power and Renewables CEO Markus Tacke said: "We are pleased to be working as a partner again in major projects with Mainstream Renewable Power.
"This order also clearly demonstrates that, with its Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPP), South Africa is on a successful path for achieving the governments stated goal of installing 3,725 megawatts of renewable energy capacity."
The Khobab and Loeriesfontein 2 wind farms are located in the Namakwa district municipality whereas the Noupoort facility is located in Umsobomvu local municipality, 400km north of Port Elizabeth.
The three wind facilities will feature Siemens SWT-2.3-108 wind turbines, which come with a rotor diameter of 108m and hub height of 99.5m.
Siemens is scheduled to commence turbine installation from August 2015. The three projects are expected to be commissioned between early 2016 and the end of 2017.
