Under the contract, Siemens will supply 48 Siemens SWT-3.0-108 wind turbines, each with 3MW capacity, for the largest near-shore wind farm in Holland’s IJsselmeer lake.
Siemens will also operate the €400m wind farm for a minimum term of 15 years.
Siemens Nederland management board member Bernard Fortuyn said: "During construction, the Westermeerwind project will create some 150 additional jobs in the region and in the fifteen years following, employment for approximately 30 technical engineers and other skilled staff will be ensured."
The wind project is expected to produce over 500GWh of sustainable electricity which is enough to supply 160,000 households, while significantly contributing to the Netherlands’ aim to reach climate-protection targets of generating 145 of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2020.
Scheduled to commence work in summer 2014, the wind farm will be commissioned between end of 2015 and early 2016.
The power generated from the wind farm will be sold to Eneco, under an agreement for 15 years.
Several Dutch companies Ballast Nedam and Mammoet for foundations and installation of the windmills, and VSMC will contribute to the project as subcontractors
