Valued at QAR920m ($253m), the contract covers supply of gas-insulated switchgears (GIS), with voltages including 220kV, 132kV and 66kV, for the first stage of the Phase 11 expansion.
Siemens WLL Qatar CEO Bernhard Fonseka said the company has been a long-standing partner to KAHRAMAA and the contract further strengthens their cooperation.
"This project will contribute to improving the power infrastructure in and around Doha, helping the government meet its requirements for achieving its National Vision 2030," Fonseka added.
Siemens Power Transmission Middle East head Wolfgang Braun said, "Our switchgear is designed to the highest levels of quality and cost-effectiveness, ensuring that all our customers’ requirements of performance and reliability are met."
Work under the contract is scheduled to complete within the next 26 months.
Siemens has provided substations for phases V, VI, VII, IX and X of KAHRAMAA’s project, Since 2005.
Qatar Power Transmission System Expansion project aims to ensure stable power supply to all sectors including households, business centers, shopping malls, hospitals and schools throughout the capital city Doha and its suburbs.
