Siemens Energy has secured a contract worth over AED500m ($136m) to build a new 400kV grid station in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The company signed the deal for this 400/132kV grid station with Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority and Abu Dhabi Transmission and Despatch Co, owners of the generation and transmission grid in UAE.

The grid station will be based in the Mahawi area of Abu Dhabi and is expected to be completed in 2013.

According to Siemens, the grid station will be the main power supply source for development projects in Mussafah, Mohamed bin Zayed City, Mahawi, Watbha, Khalifa City, Old Airport and Capital District.

Siemens will supply 400kV GIS switchgear 8DQ1, 132kV switchgear 8DN8-Enhanced version, 33kV switchgear 8DB10, 500MVA and 120MVA power transformers, together with complete balance of plant equipment including civil works for the turnkey grid station.
