The HVDC back-to-back link will link the power supply networks of India and Bangladesh.
The contract, worth about €130m, with Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) requires Siemens to engineer, install and commission the complete HVDC system.
Germany-based Siemens has already installed block 1 of the Bheramara HVDC back-to-back station in 2013.
The company will now deliver a second block with a transmission capacity of another 500MW.
Siemens will deliver all electrical components including the control, protection and monitoring systems for the HVDC system, the thyristor valves, eight converter transformers and the AC filters.
The company’s HVDC Classic technology will support in the stabilization of the connected systems.
The station of the HVDC back-to-back link will be situated in Bheramara at the Western border of Bangladesh, where it will be linked through a substation and overhead line with India’s 400-kilovolt (kV) grid.
The power link is expected to start operations in the second half of 2018.
